Checking step sizes between pages

Once you’ve set counts for a move, Analyze shows how big each performer’s steps are on the way to the current page. It points out step sizes that may be unsafe or too hard to march, so you can fix them before rehearsal.

  1. Go to the page. In the timeline, click the page where the move ends. Analyze compares this page to the page before it, so pick page 2 or later.

  2. Turn on Analyze. Click the Analyze button on the left toolbar, or press 5. The right panel shows Page Analysis.

  3. Check the largest step. Largest Step shows the biggest step size on this move, like 6.0 to 5. It turns red if it’s too big.

  4. Look at each performer. The table lists every performer by Name, with their Step Size (how many steps it takes to go 5 yards at that size) and the size in Inches. A standard 8 to 5 step is 22.5 inches.

  5. Find the problem steps. Steps bigger than 45 inches (bigger than 4 to 5) are marked in red, and a red box shows how many unsafe step sizes there are. Check Show only unsafe step sizes to list just those performers.

  6. Fix the move. To make steps smaller, give the move more Counts in the top bar, or move performers’ end spots closer to where they start. The analysis updates as you make changes.

  • Straight-line steps. Step sizes are based on the straight-line distance from each performer’s spot on the last page to their spot on this page.
  • Performers who stand still show 0.0 to 5.
  • Preview the move. To watch a move between pages, use the count ruler or play your drill. See Navigating pages and playing back a drill. To set counts and tempo, see Adding a page to a drill.
