Drawing freehand paths with the Paint tool
The Paint tool lets you draw a path by hand. When you let go, DrillFlo places your selected performers along it. Use it for curves, arcs, or any shape that isn’t a circle, line, or rectangle.
-
Select your performers. Press 2 for Select mode and select the performers you want to place. The Paint tool stays grayed out until performers are selected.
-
Switch to the Paint tool. Click Paint in the toolbar on the left (its tooltip says “Paint (3)”), or press 3.
-
Set Paint Mode to Draw. In the right panel, set Paint Mode to Draw. Draw is the default. (Shape draws circles, lines, rectangles, and triangles instead. See Using shape tools.)
-
Choose how the path snaps. Snap to Step Size sets how the path snaps to the grid as you draw. It starts at 1 (whole steps). Use 0.5 for half steps, or 0 to draw freely.
-
Choose the spacing. Step Separation sets the space between performers along the path. Leave it at -1 to spread performers evenly from one end to the other. See Changing step separation.
-
Draw the path. Start on an empty spot away from your selected performers and drag along the path you want. DrillFlo smooths the line as you draw.
-
Let go. Your performers move onto the path right away.
- Who goes where? DrillFlo matches each performer to a nearby spot on the path.
- Not quite right? Select the performers again and draw a new path.
- Done painting? Press 2 to go back to Select mode.
- Straighten things out. If your path was meant to be straight, Tidy up can clean up the line.
