Changing step separation

Step Separation sets how many steps apart performers land when you paint them along a path or around a shape.

  1. Select your performers. Press 2 for Select mode and select the performers you want to place.

  2. Open the Paint tool. Press 3, or click Paint or one of the shape tools in the toolbar on the left.

  3. Find Step Separation. It’s at the bottom of the paint options in the right panel.

  4. Enter a value.

    • -1 (the default) spreads performers evenly along the whole path or shape, no matter how long it is.
    • A number of steps, like 2 or 4, places performers exactly that many steps apart, starting at the beginning of the path. You can enter up to 50.
  5. Draw your path or shape. With the Paint tool in Draw mode, performers are placed when you let go. With a shape, check the preview dots, then click Confirm Shape.

  • Path too short? If the path runs out before every performer has a spot, the extra performers end up stacked at the end. Draw a longer path or use a smaller number.
  • Path too long? Performers fill only the start of the path, and the rest is left empty.
  • Filled shapes use different settings. When Fill Shape is checked, spacing comes from Horizontal Step Spacing and Vertical Step Spacing instead.
  • Fixing spacing later? To re-space performers who are already in a line, see Setting performer spacing.
